🐄 FETF231A Calf Hutch Grant – What You Actually Need

If you’re applying for the calf housing grant, it’s not just a hutch on its own – it has to be a full setup.

✔️ To qualify, your setup must include:

👉 Group calf hutch

• Big enough for 3+ calves (up to 12 weeks)
• Must have air vents (front / top / back)
• Made from plastic or metal (no wood)

👉 Hurdle pen (this catches people out!)

• Minimum 5 metal hurdles
• Each hurdle at least 1.8m long
• Must form a proper pen area in front of the hutch
• Needs some shelter/roof over the pen

👉 Teat feeder

• Must have a teat feeding system
• Bucket with teats / rail system – both fine
  ❗ No teat = no grant

👉 Enough space

• Rough guide:
  • 2m² per calf (young calves)
  • 3m² per calf (bigger calves)

👉 Moveable

• On skids / wheels / forkliftable
• Can’t be fixed into the ground
